 Capt. Ray was born in Currituck, North Carolina, just a stone throw from the Outer Banks. Growing up, he fished and hunted the area with his father and grandfather who were both hunting and fishing guides. His father even took the governor of North Carolina fishing and has a plaque proclaiming him a Tarheel. Fishing both fresh and saltwater, he has acquired a special knowledge and a few tricks that helps him to excel at his craft. In the early 1980’s, Ray settled down in Nags Head and started fishing tournaments in his spare time just to gain more knowledge. After fishing the tournament trail of the American Striper Association and the FLW Striper trail, Ray decided to get his captains license, and started his fishing charter business in 2003. In 2005 while fishing the Pirates Cove Inshore Attack tournament, Ray received a 1st and 2nd place finish in two different classes pushing him back on the tournament trail. In 2008, Ray formed Team Fin-Nagle and started fishing the Southern Kingfish Association. Their first year, they qualified for the National championship and finished 6th. Every year since, they have qualified in the top twenty in the state and at the national championship. Ray has also been featured several magazines such as the 2009 July/Aug issue of the International Game Fish Association quarterly, In-Fisherman, NC Boating and others. Ray has also been featured on In-Fisherman television for Striper and Tarpon fishing. If you want a captain that will give you 100% every time, Captain Ray is it.
